American Association of School Librarians (AASL),
Letter from the President
Thanks to our excellent volunteers, members of the AASL American University Presses Book Selection Committee, the 25th edition of the University Press Books for Public and Secondary School Libraries is here. Since 1967, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) have worked in partnership to provide school librarians with this invaluable tool for use in selecting resources to aid in teaching and learning.
AASL represents the collective voice of school librarians to advocate excellence, facilitate change, and develop leaders in the school library field. Likewise, on behalf of its member institutions, AAUP serves scholarly communications through professional education, cooperative services, and public advocacy. Both AASL and AAUP can be justifiably proud of their longstanding collaboration to produce a resource that helps each organization to fulfill its mission and to benefit school librarians in their effort to ensure that students and teachers have the best resources. The list is especially valuable in the selection of materials to support the achievement of AASL's Standards for the 21st-Century Learner and to support the continuing implementation of the Common Core State Standards.
AASL encourages the active use of this resource. We are confident that it will assist school librarians to encourage students and teachers alike to "Inquire and think critically, draw conclusions, share knowledge, and pursue personal and aesthetic growth" as they develop the skills, responsibilities, dispositions and self-assessment strategies required as lifelong learners.
Again, thank you to AAUP and the AASL American University Press Book Selection Committee. We are grateful to them for their commitment to the creation of this exceptional publication.
AASL President, 2014-2015
