Message from the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) and Its Collection Development Evaluation Section (CODES)

This guide is the collective work of dedicated librarians serving within the Collection Development and Evaluation Section (CODES) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). Their work and expertise has produced a valuable resource highlighting the best university press books for public and school libraries.

CODES is delighted to be part of this annual project, knowing that robust and relevant collections are the cornerstone of active and thriving libraries. As a division of the American Library Association (ALA), RUSA represents those working in the fields of reference, collection development, readers’ advisory, and resource sharing, each an area of librarianship that relies upon carefully created collections tailored to the communities they exist to serve. We know that UP titles play a special role in such collections, bringing the expertise of scholars to the general public. We further recognize that the mission of university presses allows for the publication of special interest titles that can enrich our collections beyond measure.

CODES is proud to connect librarians with the collection materials they need to move libraries forward through important book awards and though collection development tools such as this. We invite you to delve into the pages of this curated bibliography in the hopes that you discover titles to add to your collection.
